Avo Leok, one of Estonia’s best motocross riders, sustained a spinal injury from a heavy fall at the beginning of May during the Motocross World Championship round in the Netherlands. The accident left him paralysed from his waste down. According to the experts, Leok needs spinal surgery, which, if successful, enables the sportsman to start using his legs again.
Aivo Mälk from EMF, Eesti Mootorrattaspordi Föderatsioon (Estonian Motorcycling Federation), said that at the moment it is still unclear in which country and when Avo Leok will undergo the surgery. “Thanks to donors, we have now raised money for surgery, which costs approximately half a million kroons. The following rehabilitation costs about the same,” said Mälk. To collect donations for Avo Leok`s treatment, EMF has opened a bank account at SEB Eesti Ühispank: Sõmerpalu Motoklubi, account number 10220045604011, in the explanation field “Avo Leoki annetuseks” (donation for Avo Leok). The companies interested in supporting Avo Leok may contact EMF directly. “Every contribution is welcome,” added Mälk.
