Today a unique calendar of Estonian Olympic champions was presented
Posted on 24.01.2006The Estonian Olympic Committee (EOC), the Assembly of Olympic Winners and Olympic Casino presented today a unique calendar of Olympic champions, composed of of all 13 Estonian gold medal winners in the years following the Second World War.
According to Erika Salumäe, the president of the Assembly of Olympic Winners, the calendar is a nice retrospect of the Estonian sports history, whereas never before have all gold medal winners been collected in one issue. „We thank Olympic Casino and the Estonian Olympic Committee for their pleasant cooperation resulting in a unique calendar of good quality,” Salumäe said.
The idea to gather all our gold medal winners into one calendar was also supported by all thirteen living Olympic champions, and so the calendar consists of thirteen months (from January to January). The Olympic champions have been recently photographed for the calendar, and eleven men and two women also recall their brightest moments in words. A page in the calendar has been earned by Mait Riisman, Tiit Sokk, Viljar Loor, Jaan Talts, Svetlana Tshirkova, Jüri Tarmak, Andrus Veerpalu, Ants Antson, Ivar Stukolkin, Erika Salumäe, Erki Nool, Aavo Pikkuus, and Jaak Uudmäe.
A publisher of the calendar and the author of the idea is Olympic Casino, a sponsor of the EOC. According to Armin Karu, the chairman of the management of the enterprise, the calendar serves also an educational purpose in addition to its basic function. „It is surprising that such a calendar has not been composed earlier, and therefore it was pleasant to be the first one to implement the idea,” Karu said.
In addition to Olympic Casino, the biggest sponsors of the Estonian Olympic Committee include: Elion Ettevõtted (Elion Enterprises), EMT, If Eesti Kindlustus (If Estonian Insurance), Kalev, Kommest Auto, Monton, Pafer, R Kiosk Eesti (R Kiosk Estonia), Sampo Pank (Sampo Bank), Tallinna Piimatööstus (Tallinn Diary Production), and Tallinna Sadam (the Port of Tallinn).
The Estonian leading casino operator Olympic Casino Eesti AS belongs to the Olympic Entertainment Group, the largest organisator of gambling games in the Baltics, owning 19 casinos in Estonia, 38 in Latvia, 8 in Lithuania and 4 in the Ukraine. Olympic Casino employs more than 1.900 people in the Baltics and the Ukraine. Olympic Casino is a sponsor of the Estonian Olympic Committee and a full member of the European Casino Association (ECA).
