The qualifying rounds of the million-kroon prize fund blackjack tournament began in Estonia yesterday
Posted on 02.08.2004The qualifying rounds of The Baltic Sea Blackjack Tournament international blackjack tournament began yesterday in Reval Park Hotel&Casino in Tallinn and Olympic Casino in Tartu. The prize fund of the entire series of competitions is approximately one million kroons and the winner of the tournament, which will be announced towards the end of October in Helsinki.
Four different participation fee price categories are represented in the qualifying rounds of this year’s tournament, the cheapest of which is only 25 kroons, which is several times less in comparison to previous years. “We would like to give as many people interested in the card games the chance to try their luck and skills,” said Marje Braunbrück, the marketing director of Olympic Casino, about this almost symbolic participation fee.
According to her blackjack is a card game, where the player’s success does not only depend on chance but a good result is also determined by strategic thinking skills and previous experience. “We organise free blackjack training for those who are interested,” added Braunbrück.
The champions of the Baltic Sea countries will be announced on the 30th of October in a Finnish representative casino Grand Casino Helsinki opened just a few months ago. Estonian team will be defending its last year’s Team Champion’s title. “This year’s biggest news is the participation of the Swedish team – thus, at least six teams are expected to take part in the final,” said Marje Braunbrück. In addition to the Swedes and Estonians, teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the host country Finland will take part.
The winner of the international tournament’s individual competition will receive a prize of 20 000 euros, which is over 300 000 kroons; the winning team will receive 10 500 euros, which is over 160 000 kroons. The winner of the Estonian final will be awarded the title of the 4th Blackjack Champion of Estonia and the winner will receive a prize of 50 000 kroons. The prize fund total of both tournament is approximately one million kroons.
The Estonian qualifying rounds of the tournament will take place from the 1st of August to the 10th of October. The top seven blackjack players of both casinos will play in the finals of Estonia. At the same time the finals of the Blackjack Champion of Estonia tournament will take place on the 16th of October in Tallinn. The two-round Estonian finals will determine those seven players to get the ticket to the international finals.
