The best Estonian won third place at the Baltic Sea Blackjack Tournament
Posted on 15.11.2005At the Baltic Sea Blackjack Tournament held in Stockholm last weekend, the best Estonian player won third place and the Estonian team came in second. The representatives of Lithuanian Olympic Casino won the Tournament on both individual and team levels.
Having won both the first and the second place at the Tournament, the Lithuanians earned over 600,000 Estonian kroons in total. Egidijus Stasiulaitis, winner of the Tournament, earned 20,000 EUR in prize money, Semion Levin, winner of the second place, received 10,000 EUR. Lithuanian players also won the best team prize, 10,500 EUR. Thus, total winnings of the Lithuanians amounted to 40,500 EUR.
Last year, Estonian players won the Baltic Sea Blackjack Tournament both individually and as a team, but were not as lucky this time. According to Tarmo Kase, Executive Director of Olympic Casino, who selects the players for the Estonian team each year, the desired first place slipped away from Estonians at the beginning of the Tournament’s final round, when seven players remained. “The Lithuanians were very lucky indeed and their victory was quite clear,” said Kase.
Nevertheless, there were three Estonians among the seven players who reached the final round, of whom Aare, an experienced blackjack player, won third place and earned 5,000 EUR in prize money. “I am glad about the third place, but considering the success that Estonians have achieved during the previous years, I could have done better” commented the best Estonian player. Aare helped the Estonian team to win the Tournament in 2001 in Poland, where he also won first place individually. At the final round of the last year’s Tournament in Helsinki, Aare was fifth.
The other two Estonians who made it to the final round won fourth and seventh place, and their prize money amounted to 4,000 and 1,000 EUR, respectively.
Representatives of seven nations participated in the Tournament; Estonians competed with Latvians, Lithuanians, Fins, Swedes, Russians, and Poles. The Baltic Sea Blackjack Tournament was held last Saturday, 12 November, at the Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm, Sweden. It was already the sixth Tournament held so far.
Blackjack is an entertaining card game where participants play against the dealer. Each card has a numeric value; the goal of each deal is to get 21 points. The Tournament consists of 4 rounds, winners of the rounds are determined based on chips won after 21 deals. All 49 players participate in rounds I and II, only 14 players in round III, and 7 in the final round. The winner of the Tournament is the player who earns the greatest total number of points in the III and final rounds.
