Olympic Casino, the largest casino operator in the Baltic States, celebrated its tenth anniversay on November 15 by holding a large charitable fund-raising party to support the Estonian Music Academy.
In the birthday party held in Reval Park Hotel&Casino in Tallinn and in a large tent in the park in front of the building, EEK 155,654 was raised by donations and by the contribution made by Olympic Casino. The proceeds will be used for purchasing a valuable and unique Bösendorfer piano for the Estonian Music Academy.

Olympic Casino has made donations to the Estonian Music Academy on two earlier occassions in the total amount of over EEK 124,000. Including the amount raised in the birthday party, Olympic Casino’s total donation to the Music Academy is now around EEK 300,000 which is about 25 percent of the price of Bösendorfer piano that costs at least EEK 1 million.

A significant part of the donated amount, EEK 58,654, was received as birthday present made into the charitable foundation MTÜ Suurte Tegude Fond (non-profit foundation for major deeds) that was founded recently by Olympic Casino. According to Mr. Armin Karu, chairman of Olympic Casino, the objective of the new foundation is to support various projects in the fields of education, sports, culture and community life. “Olympic Casino itself donated EEK 94,402 to the foundation which will also be earmarked for purchasing the Bösendorger concert piano,” said Mr. Karu. The support provided by the non-profit foundation is to find the startup capital for launching key projects.

According to Professor Peep Lassmann, Rector of the Estonian Music Academy, Olympic Casino deserves full credit for its multi-faceted sponsorship programme. “Estonian Music Academy is very grateful for such creative approach and finding of opportunities in bringing more life to the Estonia music landscape. The world-famous Bösendorfer piano would be the first such in Estonia,” said Mr. Lassmann.

In addition to the donation made by Olympic Casino and to the funds transferred to the non-profit foundation, contributions were attracted from party guests who were able to buy tickets for a charitable lottery or use services of fortune tellers. With the help of the guests, an additional EEK 2,702 was collected to the charitable foundation.

Pianos manufactured in a piano factory founded by Ignaz Bösendorfer in Austria in 1828 are worldfamous for their uncompromising quality. The piano that the Estonian Music Academy has chosen as its new concert piano is made from sprucewood that has grown slowly in Val di Fiemme in Italy under very favourable weather conditions which will give the music instrument a special tone.

The hosts for the charitable birthday party of Olympic Casino were Dave Benton and Eda-Ines Etti. Birthday greetings were given by Mr. Toomas Vitsut, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn, and by Mr. Mart Siimann, President of the Estonian Olympic Committee and long-term partner of Olympic Casino. An exclusive programme “Swing soothes me” from the music by Raimond Valgre was performed by Olympic Park Orchestra consisting of Mart Sander, Pille Lill, Liisi Koikson, Margus Kappel, Riho Sibul and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra conducted by Tarmo Leinatamm. Other musical performances during the evening were made by Dave Benton&His Latin-Carribean Dance&Showband, Sergio Bastios&Raivo Tafenau, LaMent Ensemble and several other well-known performers. According to Ms. Marje Braunbrück, Marketing Manager of Olympic Casino, all preformers were selected to come from Estonia. “We wished to gratify local musicians,” said Ms. Braunbrück.

One of the highlights of the birthday party was drawing the top prize of a trip for two to Las Vegas among the participating guests. The top prize was won by Liam T. Allen, an Irish businessman who owns Wilde Pub in Tartu and Setanta Pub in Pühajärve. There were also other large prizes drawn during the evening including an EEK 100,000 prize raffled between casino guests.
